Every young athlete has someone who inspires them. For 28FC founder Wyatt Marshall, that inspiration was Lionel Messi.

Growing up, Wyatt faced many of the same challenges Messi did. As a smaller player diagnosed with a growth hormone deficiency, he often found himself competing against bigger and stronger opponents. During those years, Messi became proof that determination, resilience, and hard work could overcome obstacles that seemed impossible.

Recently, Wyatt was unexpectedly given the opportunity to meet Messi in person during what he believed was a documentary interview. While the moment was unforgettable, it also served as a reminder of the mission that drives 28FC every day: creating opportunities for young people through the game of soccer.

Building Something Bigger Than Soccer

Founded by Wyatt Marshall, 28FC was created with a simple but powerful vision: use soccer as a vehicle to help young people succeed both on and off the field.

Named after Route 28—the highway connecting Roxbury, Dorchester, Mattapan, and Jamaica Plain—28FC represents the communities that continue to shape the organization's mission. Through soccer, mentorship, educational support, and community engagement, 28FC works to ensure that every child has access to the resources and support needed to thrive.

What began as a local effort has grown into a thriving youth sports nonprofit serving approximately 200 young athletes and their families throughout the Boston area.

More Than Competition

At 28FC, success is measured by more than wins and losses.

The organization provides free access to quality soccer programming while helping participants develop confidence, leadership skills, academic discipline, and a strong sense of community. By removing financial barriers, 28FC ensures that every child has the chance to play, learn, and grow regardless of their circumstances.

As one parent recently shared:

"Kids can practice soccer and learn from others. It's the best program I've seen in Massachusetts because it's free while providing the same quality as many more expensive programs."

For many families, that accessibility makes all the difference.
